Plant rather than flower of the month

On 12 Months in View Susan has provided an excellent blog post about the Hawthorn which is the plant of the month for September.

The challenge was to go back to her original tutorial in March and produce a drawing.

I printed out the colouring sheet and cut out the design.   I scribbled with a pencil over the back and then drew over the outline to make a soft drawing on the page.   I cut up the sheet so I could put extra flowers and berries.

I used my Inktense water soluble crayons to colour in and then used a waterbrush to spread the colour.  For the background I used the waterbrush onto the pencil and then wiped that across the page.

It looks a bit unfinished so maybe I'll come back to it later in the month.

There's information about the month of September on 12 Months in View today with a challenge to produce some September related.

If you read my blog yesterday you will know that I had already put some colour on the next page of my journal by pressing the wet page to the dry one.

I used a Dina Wakely stencil and some Crushed Grape ink to add some colour.  I pur paper towel over the edges of the stencil so I didn't get straight lines on the page.

I also sprayed through a flower stencil as I always think of Michaelmas Daisies at this time of the year.

It was actually brighter on the page than in the photo and I didn't much like it so I sprayed it with White Linen ink.

I stamped leaves with two different greens and a butterscotch ink.  I stamped the toadstools and coloured them in using a dry brush and a Barn Door Distress Ink pad.  I added the quote and the title.  Then highlighted with a white pen.

A new season

On 12 Months in View today we start a new Season - Autumn.  If you haven't joined in with this challenge blog, today is a very good day to start.

The challenge today was to produce something that was Autumn themed.  I turned to the next page in my journal and found there was a bleed through of colours from the previous page but I ignored them!

 I found some acetate packaging that I had saved for making stencils.

I used my Cuttlebug and the Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves die to cut the stencil.  I put a piece of folded scrapbooking paper in the 'sandwich' so that I cut paper leaves as well as the acetate.

 I stamped with Black Archival Ink at the bottom of the page to form a hedgerow.

I sprayed the page and blotted it off by pressing it onto the next page.  Then I sprayed more ink through the stencil I had made.

I stuck down a few of paper leaves I had cut out  and the quote.

I used letters from my stash to give it a title.  I used the stencil to draw some extra leaves with a white pen, stopping when I got to part of a stuck on leaf to make it look like the white leaf was behind it. I highlighted the seedheads with white.
