More words

How have you got on with words challenge?  I hope you have given it a go even if you haven't shared your sentences.

Here are my sentences for last week's words

Becoming
High fashion outfits that we see on the catwalks are not always very becoming.

Gambol
When I was a child we used to gambol. These days it’s called a forward roll. This doesn’t sound so exciting.

Mellifluous
The mellifluous musical notes of Smetana’s symphonic poem, Vltava, describes the flowing of a river from the source to the sea.

This week's words:

10. Luxuriant

11. Compelling

12. Evocative

Do join in if you can.  Leave your sentences in the commetns below.

Raging Bull

Well not so raging now.  It raged when it was part of the Opening Ceremony for the Commonwealth Games.  But now it's tame.

10 metres high!  I hope you like photos of metal because there are a lot of them today!

Here was our first view

I don't usually take photographs with people I don't know in them but I took this to show the scale of the bull.

The flag poles were a bit annoying too, but I couldn't move them or edit them out.

Words 7, 8 and 9

What a week it has been!  I don't know how the senior members of the monarchy have coped.  I'm exhausted just watching from home.

Anyway, on to the sentences from last week.

Effervescence
My grandchildren love the effervescence they see when they pour vinegar onto baking soda.

Elixir
Rather than aging gracefully, many have searched for the elixir of life which might provide them with eternal life. Knowing Jesus provides the answer.

Ephemeral
The lifespan of a Mayfly is ephemeral, lasting maybe 24 hours at most.

Fetching
The bride’s mother was wearing a fetching confection on her head made of linen and peacock feathers.

And now for this week's words

7. Becoming

8. Gambol

9. Mellifluous

I hope you will join in.  If you do, leave your sentences in the comments below.

PoliNations

You may have noticed  that over recent months I haven't blogged very often.  I hadn't been anywhere and I felt I didn't have much to write about.

However yesterday we went into Birmingham City Centre on the train.  We walked up to Victoria Square where the PoliNations festival was in its last three days.  It was a garden built in the city with colourful plants.  Almost 80% of plants grown in the UK come from other countries.  This garden celebrated both the diversity of plants and the diversity of the city's population.

The garden was built around the sculpture officially known as The River.  However it's known locally as the Floozie in the Jacuzzi.

There were paths between the flower beds to wander through.

With extra large 'trees' providing a canopy.  I had seen pictures of them and I though they were totally made of metal.  The framework was but the green bits were made of some sort of fabric.

There was a giant metal tulip.

Lots of lovely grasses

With the background of the Town Hall and the Civic Buildings.

I was pleased to see that the Anthony Gormley 'Iron Man' had been put back after the roadworks for the tram were finished.

The 'trees' looked amazing.

The weather was fabulous.  Sunny most of the time with a bit of a breeze and a reasonable temperature for mid September.

Words 4-6

Let's start with my sentences for last week's three words.  Well, two!  I've spent hours and hours watching coverage of the late Queen's death and the visits of the King to various official events, rather than composing sentences!

So here are my two words.

Assemblage
As the artist walked, head down, her eyes scanned the shore as she picked up pieces of washed up detritus. A piece of fishing net, the arm of a doll, a piece of driftwood, a rusty nail, plastic shards all made it into her bag to be stuck together later. The assemblage would be part of an exhibition to highlight the damage to the environment of the throw-away society we live in.

Dulcet
Those that shout loudest cannot understand that quiet dulcet tones are more persuasive.

And for this week we have

4. Elixir

5. Ephemeral

6. Fetching

I do hope you will join in.  Leave your sentences in the comments.

Another 21 words!

Do you remember the 21 word challenge back in March?  The writing group I facilitate had 21 days of words to use in a sentence or sentences for each word.  We enjoyed it but the daily nature of it was a pressure we didn't need.

We're going to have another 21 word challenge but this time there will be 3 words each week for 7 weeks.  The group will have them sent to them each Monday, Wednesday and Friday in our WhatsApp group.

But here on my blog I am going to release the same 3 words on Tuesday each week.  It's up to you whether you use them all at once or whether you work on them on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

If you do join in, share your sentences in the comments on later posts.
