Last days in Florida

I hope you are enjoying my photos of Florida.  May of my friends, particularly the American ones, enjoy my photos of our walks in the UK, so I am hoping that my British readers are enjoying seeing photos of a different side of Florida from the Park attractions.

My last post got me to about half way through the holiday.  By this time I have only two and a half days left in Florida.

Thursday
I had all day Thursday to myself  so arranged to see a Facebook friend at the 905 Cafe in Historic Downtown Melbourne before taking myself off to Melbourne Beach.

This bird was waiting for the fishermen on the pier to catch fish and then give one or two to him.

The pelicans were also waiting for fish to pass by.

When I got down to the beach there were a couple of guys fishing with rods and lines and this heron was waiting for them to catch his lunch!

One of the things I love on Melbourne beach is the little birds who run in and out of the water.  Sadly this is the only one that was there that day.

The view along the beach.

I went for lunch at a beachside bar called Bikinis and this was the view from my table.

After lunch I went to Turkey Creek - a favourite place to walk.

The turtles were sunning themselves.

Friday
Kenny, Betsy & I went out to breakfast at my other favourite eatery - Captain Hiram's in Sebastian.

The pelicans were fishing for breakfast.

After breakfast, we went to McKee Botanical Garden in Vero.

In the evening we went to the cinema to see God's Not Dead 2.  It was very good.

Saturday
My last day!  And Betsy kindly cooked me my favourite breakfast: Plantain, Scrambled eggs and Arepas.

I drove to Orlando Airport, returned the hire car and took a flight to Detroit where Mary and her husband met me in the baggage claim hall.  My next post will be all about Ohio.  And yes I know Detroit isn't in Ohio.

Thanks for stopping by.

Glimpses of Jesus 17

Glimpses of Jesus in the Old Testament is a year long bible study written by Simon Clay of Jubilee Church Solihull.   You can join in at any time.

Today's post is about Samuel finding David who was considered insignificant in his family but who became the King.   1 Samuel 16:1-13

I used a photo on which I had already added the verse from John and added the I am statement  at the bottom.

Do have a look back through the posts on the Glimpses of Jesus blog where you will find links to other people's art and poetry.

Thanks for stopping by.

Rest days and zoo day

In my previous post I shared photos of the first six days of my holiday and I was going to share another six but there are far too many photos.

Monday
This was another rest day.  We watched the birds in the back garden and tried hard to get some decent photos but mostly the birds moved so the photos are blurred.

Betsy & I walked to the local Walgreens to get some photos printed and walked back the long way alongside this ditch which may or may not be home to alligators!  I've never see one there.  We ended up walking 3.75 miles.

Tuesday
I had arranged to spend the day with my friend Suki who is my daughter-in-law's mother's sister's mother-in-law!  Does that mean we are related?

That aside, I could choose what we did and as I had seen lots of photos on Suki's Facebook page I opted for the zoo.  I have really tried to cut down the number of photos!  The zoo was divided up into continental zones eg Africa, Australasia.

In the middle of the zoo was this sculpture exhibition

Suki with a giant puffin

There were lots of different birds in the zoo and most of them posed for photos.  I think this one was asleep.

This beautiful sculpture on a bench was dedicated to a two year old who had died.

These two were hidden away.

On Tuesday night I went out with Lauren for dinner.  We had a Thai main course and then went to an ice cream shop for dessert.  Lauren is my daughter-in-law's sister-in-law!  Can you tell that this only child has been taken into a very large Latino family.

Wednesday
Betsy & I went to Cocoa village (as opposed to Cocoa Beach - a different place entirely) to have lunch at this lovely cafe.   We had a walkabout and a driveabout and ended up at a store to buy me a new suitcase as mine had been damaged during the flight over to Florida.

The new suitcase weighs 5 pounds instead of the 10 pounds the previous one weighed.  Oh yes!  More room for craft goodies on the way home.

Thanks for stopping by.
