Cruising the Cut

Last Saturday the weather forecast was for rain all day and we had booked on a Spring Cruise on the canal or Cut, (another word for canal).   I had seen the cruise advertised on Facebook and signed up.  The lovely Brenda from BCNS matched non-boat owners (like us) with boat owners and we cruised on the boat belonging to Alistair and Hannah who turned out to live not too far away from us.

We set out from Tipton in the drizzle but it soon stopped raining.  However it did stay grey and as ever I have a load of photos with grey sky.

There were several narrowboats in convoy and we followed this one.

And no set of photos from me would be complete without the odd brick wall.  These plants grow out of the wall inside the lock despite being covered with water every time the lock fills up.

For those who are interested here is the route we took.  The tunnel is on a canal that is lower than the canal we started out on which is why you can see that we went over the canal near the tunnel entrance, then turned left three times, came down the locks and up to the tunnel.

The journey back followed the same route in reverse.  We had a lovely time.  At the end we went to dinner at Mad O'Rourke's World Famous Pie Factory where I had an Eeny Meeny Beany Pie.  Yum.

Verse Mapping

Verse mapping is new to me although it has been around for a while.  In the EveryDay Journals & Living Your Word of the Year group on Facebook  Mary, Valerie & I decided to use verse mapping as a theme for April.

I used Psalm 56:8 for my first attempt.   This is a verse that has cropped up every now and again in my life.  This is an art journal page I did.

I used some instructions for verse mapping from this blog.

I started by finding different versions of the same verse on Biblegateway and printing them out in a Word document.  I then started my research and scribbled on the printout before  writing the verse in the middle of the page in my EveryDay Journal.

I drew round key words and wrote defintions and links.

I looked at the context of verse and how the words applied to me.

Mary chose to use Romans 12:1-2 for her verse mapping, whilst Valerie chose Hebrews 4:12.  Mary has also set up a Pinterest board.

This is another piece of artwork based on this verse that I did a very long time ago.

March in my EveryDay Journal

I am quite proud of the fact that I am still working in my EveryDay Journal and that it's up to date.  I blogged about February and today it's the turn of March.

I started by using a piece of scrapbooking paper and drew out the days.  I added the letters for March.  During the month I added the quote and put the washi tape on the left hand side.

I have rather a lot of washi tape so I am using it to decorate my journal.  At the top of these pages are the words from the new Hillsong song 'Who you say I am'.  I continued writing a verse each day from Mary Brack's Lent Words.

Since January I have booked more workshops and courses so I put the information about these on these pages.

I have tried to do at least 3 things each day.  I have found it most beneficial to have planned things to do through the week.  When I know I'm going to be out all day I don't put things in to do.

I've started a 40 day mark making challenge with some friends and to keep me on track I have written that in for each day.

And so the month has ended and I have prepared the pages for April including the monthly calendar.  I have used a stencil to 'doodle' on the edge of the page.  I have done this before when I was at Valerie's art journaling workshop last year (she's doing another one this year) but was reminded of the technique by a recent blog post by Michelle Ward.

In the EveryDay Journal - Living Your Word of the Year group we have decided to give verse-mapping a try during April.  I've never done it before so I shall be interested to see how I get on.

You may have noticed that I haven't actually mentioned my word of the year in March.  Although I have been extremely thankful throughout the month it really hasn't caught my intention in my journal.  I am wondering whether to choose another word.   I'll continue to mull it over.
