My journal for 2019

My word for 2019 has been {Commit} or {Commitment}. In my first post this year I listed the things I felt I needed more of in 2019:
  • Read the Bible more frequently
  • Pray more regularly
  • Trust God more
  • Move every day (walk, exercise etc)
  • Create everyday
  • Finish things

Did I succeed in including these things?  Yes and No.   I don't necessarily do any of them every day but I have managed to finish things, including my A-Z journal.

Let's look at my pages for 2019:

There were so many photos that I think I need to write another post about finding a word for 2020 rather than including it here.

Thanks for joining me today.

Z is for determination!

In our Living Your Word of the Year group we are using a fortnightly (bi-weekly) A-Z challenge throughout the year to help us focus on our word and live it out.

Because of the way I have made my journal it's a case of going with the flow of what background the pages have when I turn to them.

I looked up verses on Biblegateway related to Zeal which was my chosen Z word.  However I couldn't find ones that fitted with my word Commitment.  So I looked for synonyms of Zeal which fitted with Commit/Commitment.  I found perseverance and determination.  Searching these words on Biblegateway brought up some verses that I thought fitted well for the last letter post.

As the year has gone on I feel my pages have become more and more minimalist.

I have one double page spread left in my journal where I am going to reflect on 2019.

Thanks for joining me today.

Advent Words

Mary Brack has written an Advent Study based on John 1:1-18.  It started on Sunday but you still have time to join in.   This blog post explains how it works.

S is for ?

In our Living Your Word of the Year group we are using a fortnightly (bi-weekly) A-Z challenge throughout the year to help us focus on our word and live it out.

Because of the way I have made my journal it's a case of going with the flow of what background the pages have when I turn to them. This page had a little booklet sewn into the signature and the picture and words.

I was looking for something simple for this page.  I have to admit I was in a hurry and needed to do the page in a short amount of time.  The 'live, love & take pictures' made me think about skills which led me on to strengths and spiritual gifts.  I have done spiritual gifts tests and the top one is always Administration.

I've also done the Strengthsfinder survey which came out with these 5.

I put a variety of pictures in the little booklet - views, my work etc.

I printed out the words and pictures and stuck them into my journal.   The thing about pages like this is that I can always come back and add more design.

Thanks for joining me today.

P is for Promise

In our Living Your Word of the Year group we are using a fortnightly (bi-weekly) A-Z challenge throughout the year to help us focus on our word and live it out.

Because of the way I have made my journal it's a case of going with the flow of what background the pages have when I turn to them.

I'm not sure why I put candles on the page - I just knew I wanted to use the washi tape!

I found various Bible verses about promises and printed out four of them.

And here are the two pages together.

Thanks for joining me today.

O is for Obedience

In our Living Your Word of the Year group we are using a fortnightly (bi-weekly) A-Z challenge throughout the year to help us focus on our word and live it out.

Because of the way I have made my journal it's a case of going with the flow of what background the pages have when I turn to them.

I randomly put some washi tape on the page.  I printed out the verse from 2 John 6 and stuck it down.  I used a pen to make the dashes around each part of the verse.  I used some tiny letters for the obedience, obedient and obey.

I am currently re-reading Grace for the Good Girl by Emily Freeman and had just got to this bit of the book about obedience so I wrote it out to remind me of where I want to be with my commitment to God.

And here are the two pages together.

Thanks for joining me today.

Notice the small things

In our Living Your Word of the Year group we are using a fortnightly (bi-weekly) A-Z challenge throughout the year to help us focus on our word and live it out.

Because of the way I have made my journal it's a case of going with the flow of what background the pages have when I turn to them.  As with the page for M I had a page full of stars.

When I was on the Tactile Notebook workshop, one of the first things that Sandra Brownlee talked about was: notice what you notice and she gave us a brown paper bag with those words printed on, which I stuck into my notebook.

I've been thinking a lot about this phrase since and decided I would use notice for N in my A-Z journal.  I put the N sticker on the little insert page.

I used some photos from this year to demonstrate noticing the small things.  The centre of flowers, the raindrops on the petals, the rust and decay I spotted on the railings where we were queueing to get on a boat.

I thought about the meaning of the word notice and looked up a dictionary definition.  Synonyms of notice included observe, observant and pay attention.  I used these words to look up verse using BibleGateway.  I printed out the verses that I though most went with my word of the year - [Commit].

I put a small strip of washi tape to link this page to the M page.

Valerie's post for N is about Nature.  In her blog she challenges us to:
'Go for a walk in nature.  Notice special things in your everyday life as if you are on an adventurous journey… because you are!   As you walk, imagine Jesus walking next to you. Ask him a question like what are you thinking about? Or What is on your heart? Or What do you want to say to me right now? Or if you have something heavy or big on your mind, ask him what he has to say to you about that thing. Then listen'.

My challenge is to notice the small things.  In nature or elsewhere.   Notice the small things people go out of their way to do for you.  Notice the small things that people go out of their way to do for others.  And then thank them.  Encourage them.  As you encourage others, you will be encouraged to do small things for other people too.

Thanks for joining me today.
