Over on 12 Months in View the wonderful Anita van Hal has designed some art journaling pages which are free to download for those taking part.

I was privileged to be on the Design Team for JustBYourself and you can see some of the things I made with Anita's designs.

2012 Memories Journals

I decided that I would make a Zine with one of Anita's designs.   I printed off the Notes sheet onto thin card and the Overlay sheet on copier paper. I also printed out the March quotes.

I forgot to set the printer to no borders so as you can see there was a white line all round the page which I trimmed off.

I cut out the note holder and the notecard.  I inked the quotes page using Mustard Seed Distress Ink.  I also inked a spare piece of paper and stamped the daffodils with the same ink.
I folded the overlay printout into a Zine.

I stamped the word March on a bit of the spare paper and stuck it on the front with a cut out daffodil.

I cut up the quote and stuck it on the page with another of the daffodils.

I assembled the note holder and stuck it together with double-sided tape and then stuck it onto my zine page.  I stuck the cut up quote onto the holder.

I stamped some daffodils onto the background image.  I inked the edges of the cut up quote with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink before sticking it down.

I cut out part of the March verse and inked around the edges to stick on the back page.

A finished zine.  Although there's scope for doodling!

Hearts and ...

No, not flowers but shamrocks.

Today is St Patrick's Day and today's challenge is to use heart shapes to make shamrocks and then make an interesting layout or art journal page.  Or just use heart shapes.

I found all my green Distress Inks.  Although I think some of them are more blue than green.

Anyway, it didn't matter because I didn't use them all!

I had already put gesso on my journal page so I randomly spread colours on from the pad, one after the other, wiped it round with a baby wipe and drying in between each colour.

I built up layers with a heart stencil and some sequin waste.

 

I added some pink and although I had dried the layers each time, the next layer wiped out the previous layer!

I printed out the quotes and inked the paper with turquoise, pink and yellow distress inks.

I cut up the quotes and inked the edges before sticking them down.  I drew dashed lines around the hearts with a black pen and added other details with the pen.  I used a stamp that looks like ric-rac with Archival ink.  I dripped water on to bleach out some of the colour and also used water on a heart stamp to do the same.

As ever there's scope for more doodling and some journaling if I wish.

Stencilled Newspaper

Today's technique on 12 Months in View was to make your own patterned paper from a piece of newspaper.

I tore 2 pieces of newspaper about the size of my journal with the intention of being able to stick the paper in later.   I covered the back of both pieces with white acrylic paint rather than gesso.  Then on one of the pieces I covered the other side with white acrylic and on the other one I used clear gesso.

 

Then I used a variety of stencils and 5 different colours of acrylic paint.  I tipped the paint out of my Dabbers and used a wet baby wipe but found that it worked better with a dry baby wipe.

I dried the acrylic paint between each colour and then sprayed 2 colours of Colorwash over it. I spread the Colorwash with a wet baby wipe.

When the Colorwash was dry I stencilled again with colour and then finally with some black and some white.

I did exactly the same with the clear gesso page.

The acrylic paint version has much more of a shine to it than the clear gesso version but I like the fact you can see the print through the stencilling.

I haven't decided what to do with this yet.  I'll let you know when I know!!
