Exotic

November's theme for Snapshot Girls was 'Exotic'.  My life was really busy and I had no ideas for photographs.  I saw posts on Facebook from several people who had visited the Chihuly exhibition at Kew Gardens over the summer.

So I cheated.  I didn't get to Kew but I have been to the Chihuly museum in Seattle.  So I used photos I took whilst there.

20 days in North America: Seattle

Part of the reason for going by ferry to Seattle was to be able see the view.  Sadly the weather didn't play ball.

In fact part of the way through the journey it became so foggy that the Captain was sounding the foghorn rather frequently.   Our first view of Seattle.

We dropped off our luggage at the hotel and then walked through the city centre to the Space Needle.  On the way I saw these in the pavement.

We didn't go up the Space Needle.

Instead we went to the Chihuly Glass Museum.

In the evening we had dinner with a friend who used to live in Solihull.

The next day we went to Pike Market

There was an enormous queue outside Starbucks #1 which we didn't join!

We walked around Pioneer Square and booked an underground tour.

The tour was absolutely fascinating and we learned all about the history of Seattle.  This was how it once looked.

We decide to go up to the top of the Smith Tower which isn't the tallest building in Seattle but was the most interesting.  It had its own little museum about the building which was built in 1914.

It had a Chinese room at the top and you could walk round the outside to view the city.

 We had lunch in Occidental Square

And then visited a gold mining museum which was a State Park!  I weighed myself!

After walking back through Downtown Seattle, we collected our luggage and a hire car and drove north so we could drive the Northern Cascades Highway.

We are half way through our trip.  Just Washing State and Oregon to go.  But fear not, there's only 4 more posts to go.  If you don't want to follow our further travels (and I quite understand if you don't - although there are mountains, waterfalls, a beach and a Bavarian village to come), come back on July 21st when creativity posts will be restored!
