Down South

I went to Committed to Cloth this week. I was going on my own but the weather forecast was good so Roger came with me.  He went walking whilst I went to the studio.

Today I'm going to tell you about the day we came home rather than what went on at C2C.  You'll have to wait unti next week for that!

On the way home from East Grinstead we drove towards Guildford in Surrey.  On the way we did a detour to Watts Gallery - Artists Village.

We walked through the grounds to where this beautiful Arts & Craft house had been built.  Sadly you couldn't visit inside.

Then we walked up to the Chapel which was rather too ornate inside for my taste.

This is a basketry installation.  We sat and had a drink just by it.

Then we moved on to Guildford.  We picked up an Historic Trail guide and wandered through the castle grounds with its amazing flower gardens.

This is the Guildhall clock.

The river Wey and the Wey & Arun Navigation run through Guildford.  I rather liked this sculpture.

A cast iron bridge

An old mill.  We could hear the mill race.

A canal lock.

We had lunch in a pub during our walk.

We drove home across country to the M40 rather than using the M4.

Thanks for joining me today

Augsburg

Recently we were watching a fairly mundane travel documentary about a train journey in Bavaria.  It started in Augsburg and I felt that we had been there.  When I looked on this blog I couldn't find a post about the visit although there is this post with three photos.  I looked on my computer and behold there are lots of photos.  Be prepared for some armchair travelling.  It's really the only kind these days!!!

I hope you enjoyed our look around Augsburg today.  Thanks for joining me.

Yes! We went away

For the first time since March 23rd I travelled more than 30 minutes away from home and stayed out over night.  I felt like I was playing truant the whole journey to King's Lynn.  We had originally booked hotels for Tuesday night and Wednesday night but last Sunday we decided we would leave a day early.  We booked into a B&B for Monday night in Kings Lynn.

We arrived in time to have a walk around Kings Lynn before checking in.

The metalwork above the jailhouse door.

Beautiful historical streets.

With little alley ways to peek into.

Along the waterfrontA

Be prepared for at least two more posts next week about Norfolk.  I've a lot of photos of sailing dinghies beached with the tide way out of sight!

Thanks for joining me today

Frank Lloyd Wright

Mary and I spent our second day strolling around Oak Park looking at all the houses built by Frank Lloyd Wright or other architects influenced by him.  We also had a guided tour of his home and studio.

The gates to Austin Park

Houses along Forest Avenue, Oak Park

Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio, Oak Park

Openings high up in the walls to view other rooms

The family bathroom - ensuite with the master bedroom

Lots of patterned glass in the windows and on the ceiling.

Inside the Studio

Other houses in the area

I really enjoyed seeing all the architecture in Chicago, especially the Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

Thanks for joining me today.
