Frank Lloyd Wright

Mary and I spent our second day strolling around Oak Park looking at all the houses built by Frank Lloyd Wright or other architects influenced by him.  We also had a guided tour of his home and studio.

Lots of patterned glass in the windows and on the ceiling.

I really enjoyed seeing all the architecture in Chicago, especially the Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

Thanks for joining me today.

Chicago

I recently spent two weeks in the United States.  I began my trip by meeting my friend Mary in Chicago.   Today I am going to tell you about Day 1 and Day 3.  There will be a separate post for Day 2 which was Frank Lloyd Wright day!

We started our first day by driving downtown to visit the Hull House.  There was a great view of the Chicago skyline from outside the house.

Chicago is on Lake Michigan  and we were able to get some great photos of the lake.

And this was the view back into the city.

The Airbnb we stayed in was very close to the Blue Line.  In fact it was just beyond the back yard!

On our third day together we took the Blue Line downtown.

We went to the Flower Show at Macys.  It wasn't a flower show in the sense that we think of them in the UK.  There were just amazing displays of flowers in the store.

Some parts of the building was amazing especially the ceiling in this atrium.

We had a wander downtown and went to the Chicago Architectural Center.

There was a model of Chicago and an exhibition about the tallest buildings in the world.

The river in Chicago.

I didn't take as many photos as I would usually do, because I had visited Chicago with Roger in 2017 when I took an enormous amount of photos.  If you haven't already seen them they are here, here, here and here.  A lot - I know!

Thanks for joining me today.

20 days in North America: Chicago pt 3

The start of our third day in North America saw us taking the train to Logan Square to visit the market.  It was an eclectic mix of stalls!

You can't buy fresher than this!  Although I do think the guy would have done better with scissors rather than a knife.

It was still extremely hot as we walked from Logan Square to Humboldt Park.

With more interesting architecture.

We were fascinated by this sign that said the park closed at 11pm.  There were no fences or railings around the park so it was difficult to see how they closed it!

Humboldt Park

Loved this sign!

We took a final train back to the hotel which was out near the airport.  We collected the luggage and took the Shuttle bus to Chicago Airport

and flew out to Vancouver.

Next time: Grouse Mountain

Thanks for stopping by.
