What can I do?

This last few days have been strange.  Strange because of the virus BUT more strange because of the death of  George Floyd and the worldwide reaction to it.

Last Tuesday we were encouraged to fill social media with a black square.  I admit I didn't do it.  Lots of people I love and respect did - and that's fine.  But to me it was a silent protest.  And really this isn't the time to be silent.  We have to speak out.  We need to help.

And if you're like me, a white privileged person, it's hard to know what to do.  I think we - I - need to find out more about racism and how we can promote equality.  One thing as a Brit I needed to find out was why racism is such a problem in America.  I found this to be useful.

And then there's this

So what can we do?

I thought it would be great if we could support those who have a voice on social media. And those who don't!   To flood our own social media with the work of non-white authors, poets, artists, creatives.   Use the hashtag #amplifymelanatedvoices

31 Days in May

Last week I showed you my April pages in my Word of the Year journal.  This week it's May's turn.

I had enrolled on an Everything Art workshop called Self-love 365 and used it as the impetus to colour one square a day for each day in May.  My word of the year is walk which I wrote in the first square and put the number of miles I walked in May in the last square.

I used the usual calendar I had drawn out for May as a record of what I had done - mostly walking or zooming!

Here are the pages for May

And here's my calendar ready for June.   Lockdown is easing byt still no events!

Have you done anything creative lately?

Thanks for joining me today.

Challenge reminder

Are you going to join in?

Remember I suggested a 30 day challenge for June!

Here are my paints, papers and inks ready to start on Monday.

I am going to make a collage everyday through June.  I'm not going to have a theme, but there will be a colour scheme.  Plus I'm limiting the size to the size of the sketchbook.  The aim is to fill a page each day and maybe at the end I'll have ideas to develop as pieces of work.  But for now, it's just about playing.

Here are a couple of collages I made in January at Committed to Cloth.

I'd love it if you decided to join in. You don't have to do a collage. You can choose any creative pastime you enjoy. I suggest you do something you already know how to do. Stay in your comfort zone for a month. Innovation might come from it, but comfort zones lessen anxiety. However I would definitely limit the size of what you do.

Thanks for joining me today.
