More from 31 days of Journalling

After my last post about my 31 days journal, I continued with watching the videos and doing some of the challenges Laura set.  Here are some of the pages.

This page is covered in a paper napkin.

For this page I ripped the flowerrs out of the paper napkin and layered them.

We went to Worcester and I made this extension page from the leaflet we picked up about walking around the history of Worcester.

I'm still working on other pages which I will share with you at some point.

Thanks for joining me today

Textile Artists

During this 30 day blogging challenge I have shared with you about mixed media artists who have influenced me and blogs that I follow.  Today I thought I would tell you about some of the Textile Artists I follow online.   Interestingly when I compiled the list I realised that I have met all of them and done real-life workshops with them.

Hilary Beattie
I met Hilary at a two day workshop at The Festival of Quilts where she crammed in all that subsequently became 12 days spread over a year as Make It Personal.  This was the collaged piece that is still not stitched!

Steph Redfern
I started making this textile book at a Steph Redfern workshop at The Bramble Patch.  It took me a while to finish it but I'm pleased to say that I did.

Ineke Berlyn
This is a zigzag book I made as a result of a day's dyeing workshop at Ineke's studio.  I showed how it developed here.

Linda & Laura Kemshall
I have done two online Creative Sketchbook classes with Design Matters and a day's workshop at Laura's studio.   This was the book I made from the class.

Anne Brooke
I haven't done a textile class with Anne but I spent a day at her studio doing a Workbook in a Day class.  I showed my follow up work in this post.

Although most of these textile artists are quilters you can see the mixed media influence.

Next weekend I'm going to a retreat workshop taught by Cas Holmes.  I'm looking forward to seeing what I learn there.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cut up!

Remember this?

Well, now it looks like this!

I turned the finished sheet over and cut it up.  I did it from the back so that I couldn't worry about what the image was on the pages of the book I am going to make.    This is the cover.

I had papers left from the workshop that I hadn't used and painted them with watercolour paints.

I put the pages out.

I stuck down the shapes I had cut out of the painted papers.

I did the same with the other 3 pages.

I rubbed Oil Pastel over the yellow paint and then did a watercolour wash over the top.

I also added some white highlights with an Oil Pastel.

I added some colour to the cover.

I stuck the pages together with double-sided tape and glue stick.

The shape that I used throught the book is based on an Honesty plant.  It is a bit of a cliché but I am going toput Honesty related quotes and Bible verses into the book.  Come back later in the week to see the finished book.

Thanks for stopping by.

A great day out

On Wednesday, Roger & I drove over to near Bridgenorth, where I was dropped off at Laura Kemshall's new workshop studio to spend a day playing.  Roger went off walking on Clee Hill.

And here's some of what I did.

Here are some of the bits glued down in an unfinished composition.

I came away with a head full of ideas.  Of course whether this gets finished or gets chopped up into something else is anybody's guess.

But the day was fun and the process was great.  And that's all that matters.

Thanks for stopping by.
