Another piece finished

I previously showed you the large piece I was making for Text,Texture, Textiles as I was putting it together.

I'm really pleased to show you the finished hanging.

I'm going to have a rest from making textile hangings!

Finished

Remember this post: A Companion Piece?

Well here it is finished.   I used the preset stiches on my machine and added a plain binding.

The finished piece is 16 inches by 15 inches.  Irritatingly one corner is decidedly off kilter.  It may or may not get fixed!

A Companion Piece

Last month I told you about a new hanging I am making using fabrics I printed and dyed on the Text, Texture, Tile workshop.

With the fabric I had left over, I cut strips and randomly sewed them together.

I cut the assembled pieces into narrower pieces and laid them out.

Instead of having all the pieces running vertically as in the previous hanging, I tried putting some horizontally.

I tried the pieces in different places and then bgan to sew the strips together.

The bottom half of the hanging assembled, with added narrow blue strips.

I carried on assembling the pieces together.  I really like this with it's strange edges but I think it will probably need to squared off.

I cropped the photograph to see what it would look like.

I have bonded the uncropped version onto acrylic felt and a backing fabric ready to sew.  I'll share the sewing expereince in another post.

A new piece

Last month I showed you how I had added printed layers to my fabrics for Text Texture Textile.  On Thursday at the session at Littleheath Barn I started a new piece of work using the fabrics.

I started - let's all say it together - by cutting up the fabrics.

Then I started sewing them together - just picking randomly from the pile.

After ironing them I cut them into 6 inch wide strips and 4 inch wide strips.

As each strip grew I pinned them on the wall.

When I got home I pinned them onto the design wall - actually a drop cloth hanging from a wardrobe!

I cut up the larger pieces I had machined together (on the left and right of the above picture) and finished machining all the pieces together.

I'm going to leave it  hanging up for a while so I can think about what I shall do next.

Text Sketchbook

At the beginning of December I introduced you to my Text Sketchbook and I thought it would be good to update you on how it's going.

When I went back to it I was unimpressed.  I had wanted the pages to be neutral.  But there's a big difference between neutral and dull.  So I've started doing what I said at the end of that post which is to add orange.

The sketchbook is really thick now and doesn't photograph well. But you can see what I have done!  I've used some of the painted papers I made during the demo videos for Simply Create.

My theme in this sketchbook is walk.  I have returned as ever to walks along the Stratford Canal and included photos from the walks.  Plus I have added words from the Robert Frost poem: The Road Not Taken which I have used in previous work.

And something we all need to do - play!

I hope you have enjoyed looking through my sketchbook.  Lots more to do in it - but it's a marathon not a sprint!  A walk not a run!!!
