Expectation & Waiting

The day before yesterday was the first Sunday in Advent which saw the start of an Advent Study on His Kingdom Come.   It is available to everyone - you don't have to be a member of the community.  Although it would be great if you joined.  It's not too late to take part.

I decided to continue in my Take Me Deeper Dylusions journal.  I decided I would use half a page for each day and counted how many pages I had left.  The Advent study is 27 individual prompts.  I worked out I didn't have enough pages left so I added in 3 extra pages using washi tape to hinge the pages.

I have already done my art for December 17th and 19th as I have written the devotions for that day.  My journal pages look like this:

The study could be done as a tag book, as a written journal - in any creative way you choose.

Why not join us at His Kingdom Come.  You can read about preparing for the study here.

I will be sharing my pages from time to time.

Thanks for stopping by.

TMD:ReWind November week 4

This is the last of the ReWind posts before we start our Advent Study at His Kingdom Come.  The theme for this week was Promises - the promises of God.

Continuing with using my new Gelatos I scribbled 2 different colours - one on each page.

I wet the pages and then pressed one onto the other.

And peeled them apart to reveal this.

I left it to dry naturally.

I put two types of washi tape around the edge of the pages.

I put washi tape in random places on the page.  At this point I still had no idea where the page was going.

I printed out 5 verses and coloured the paper with Distress Ink.  I put the verses onto the pages and drew round them with a turquoise pen.  The pen didn't work well over the gelatos so some of the lines are a bit wonky!

TMD:ReWind November week 3

This week's ReWind looks back to August's Shaped by Gratitude.

I used some shaped post-it type sheets onto my page and put gesso on the page.  The shapes acted as a mask.

When the gesso was dry I scribbled with the gelato colours.

I used a wet wipe to blend them together.

When I removed the green shapes some of them had bits stuck to the gesso but I left them  - added texture?

I wrote the theme word for each month of Take Me Deeper in oone of the shapes with a coloured pen.

Then I wrote prayers of gratitude based on that theme.

Only one more week of ReWind to go.   Come back next Saturday to see my journal page.

Thanks for stopping by.

TMD: ReWind November week 2

We are continuing with the ReWind theme in Take Me Deeper at His Kingdom Come.  This week's them looks back to Honour, the theme for July.

I used some of stick on letters to put the word honour in several places.

At this point I had no idea what I was going to do and then as I had the black gesso out I put black gesso over the whole page.

I wasn't quite sure how gelatos would work with this but I decided to give it a go.  As you can see in the photo below I scribbled on the page and then blended the colours.  I tried a small section with a wet wipe which wiped off some of the colour so I used a piece of paper towel instead.

I went over the letters with a silver gelato.

I added words and a border with a white Sharpie

It's not one of my favourite pages but at least I learned that you can put gelato colours on black gesso.

Thanks for stopping by.

TMD: Rewind November week 1

The theme for ReWind this week at Take Me Deeper on His Kingdom Come is Family.  This was the theme for June.  I didn't do the pages in June but caught up in September.

I have just bought some Gelatos and decided I would try them out in my TMD journal without having tried them anywhere else.  I watched a couple of YouTube videos and then went for it.

I put gesso on the page and when it was dry I used 6 colours of gelatos to scribble across the top of the page.

I tried to blend them with the foam tool that came with the Gelatos.

Then I sprayed the whole page with water but forgot to take a photo.   At this point I was totally stuck for ideas so I chose two washi tapes that I like and made a border round the page with them.

Then I chose another two washi tapes and randomly stuck them down.

Then I went and re-read the prompt for this week.   The worship video was The Poem of Your Life by Michael Card.

I found the lyrics and printed out the first verse and stuck it on to my page.

Do you like to journal the lyrics of songs?

Thanks for stopping by.

PS And in case you thought I had forgotten the winner of the HKC Birthday Blog prize was
I remember a year ago my daughter Jessica and I had participated in Shonna's Kingdom Come workshop which had been a wonderful experience for the both of us. Then the Advent study started and we jumped on board with that as well. Then the excitement and relief that the being a part of a Christian arty community was available. I am so thankful for the privilege of being a member of HKC community! I appreciate your willingness to share your time, talents and wisdom with us, Bernice! Thank you.

Journey to the Cross

The March theme for Take Me Deeper at His Kingdom Come has been Journey to the Cross.  The devotions haven't looked at all of the Biblical Easter story but at our relationship with God through events in Jesus' life.

Week 1: I will follow

Week 2: Take my hand

Week 3: Nothing but the blood

Week 4: Walk through the wilderness

It's not to late to join in with Take Me Deeper.  Each month we have a new theme so join now at His Kingdom Come and then join the Take Me Deeper group where you will find all the prompts.

Thanks for stopping by.

Take Me Deeper: Transform Purposefully

The last prompt for Take Me Deeper in January is about transforming purposefully.  I read through the prompt quite quickly and then started on the background.  Quite often I try to play and don't think about having any meaning in the background and afterwards people will mention something that see in it that's relevant to the theme.

This time I immediately thought of maps and arrows as a way to show purpose.  I cut myself a template of an arrow and drew round it to cut out arrows from an old map.

I made some small arrows too and stuck them down on my journal page.

I put a very thin layer of gesso over the top of the pages.

I put a pale blue covering of acrylic paint but it didn't really look very good.

So I added some more colour and wiped off some of the colour on the arrows.

I drew round the arrows with a turquoise pen.

I drew the journaling boxes and stamped the butterflies and the compass.

I used alphabet stickers to put the words  Transform Purposefully.  I printed out the verse, cut it up and inked the edges.

Then I wrote in the words and added my journaling.

Take Me Deeper: Transform Faithfully

The theme for week 4 of Take Me Deeper is Transform Faithfully.  I like to read the devotion and then start on the background of my page.  It may take a day or two do produce as I do a bit and then walk away for a bit - or several hours - and come back and do a bit more.

On this double page I put a variety of washi tape.

Then I put some gesso over the top leaving the marks in it for extra texture.

I rubbed two Distress Ink pads over the dry gesso.

And then tried to blend the colours with a wet wipe.  However that mostly took the colour off because of the gesso underneath.

I put some colour on and didn't try to blend it.

Yet again at this point I wasn't very impressed but battled on adding colour through stencils.  I kept with the three colours of Distress Ink.

Then I stamped the butterflies randomly on the page.

My usual problem is that having made a background, I like it too much to put anything on top.  However since I still wasn't enamoured it was much easier to draw the boxes and put a thin coat of gesso over the spaces inside.  I stuck some sticker letters down.

This verse had stood out in my reading - mostly because it was mentioned by the guest preacher at church on Sunday.

I added my journaling.

Take Me Deeper: Transform Submissively

The theme for week 3 of Take Me Deeper has been about submission and although I had done the background of the pages in my journal quite early on, it has taken all week to submit to the journaling.

Firstly I tore up some pieces from an old map and stuck them to the page and covered them with a thin layer of gesso.

Then I dry brushed two colours of acrylic paint over it.  I added some copper coloured paint when the blue and green had dried.

Using two colours of  Distress ink I stencilled on the top  using 3 different stencils.

I drew the journaling boxes and put a thin coat of gesso so I would be able to write on top.

I stamped the letters with Ranger Archival Ink and coloured them in with a black Glaze pen.  This photo shows just one coat of the Glaze.

If you allow the Glaze to dry you can do another coat on top.  This actually has 3 coats.  I had wanted to use my turquoise Glaze pen but it had dried up!  When you put 3 coats on like this, it looks as though you have enamelled it.

I drew round the black Glaze with a white pen and added some white elsewhere on the page. I wrote my journaling.  I printed out the verse, cut it up and edged it with Distress Ink before sticking it down.

Onwards to week 4!  See you next week.

Thanks for stopping by.
