Practising Gratitude day 1: Create

For 21 days in May I am running an art challenge blog called The Art of Practising Gratitude.  Today's post is here.  On my blog I am showing what I did in response to the blog post.

Each blog post has an action to take and today's action is to create a Gratitude List and add one thing each day for the month of  May.  I started on my first double page spread in my altered book and stamped the word thankful.

On the table where I'm working I have put a piece of a tablecloth.  It's a paper one that looks like linen.  It is excellent for cleaning brushes, rollers, stamps etc on to and then at the end you have a serendipitous piece of art which could be used as a cover.  I bought this one in Walmart but you can get them in supermarkets here in the UK.

I have decided that I am going to keep my colour scheme simple and where possible I shall only use Distress Inks because I find them easier to control.  I have chosen Ripe Persimmon, Peacock Feathers and Picked Raspberry.

I used a stencil to randomly put pattern onto the page.

I used some washi tape to make the 31 numbers I need for the month and added the first thing I'm thankful for.

Then I moved on to the day's page.   I took a piece of 90lb watercolour paper from a pad and put a water wash over it before applying some orange and yellow watercolour.

Whilst it was still wet I put the clingfilm on top scrunching it up as I did so.

When it was dry I peeled off the clingfilm and was left with this pattern.

I stamped the word create on my page.

At my local crop I was able to use the new Tim Holtz die that had been bought and I had cut out the shapes from some random bits of scrapbooking paper.  I stuck some of it down on my page.

I stamped some flowers with Dylusions stamps on the watercoloured paper but you could draw your own and then cut them out.  I stuck them to my page.

I cut out the Bible verse for today and inked the edges before gluing it down.

I added my journaling and stamped an edge to the page.

Thanks for stopping by.

  6. What a great page. I love the honey comb shape. And what a great way to put together your gratitude list. I love the variety of ways there are to approach your classes. I"m doing a tag journal. I just blogged about it, and it will go live later tonight.
