Artists' Books Workshop

I have spent the last three days at a workshop on making an Artist's Book.   There was the possibility of monoprinting as well.

Starting at the end of the 3 days here are some of the things I made.   Those pictured are finished books but I also have some sample patterns for books.

I tried out various things and then settled on making this book.   It started off being a black and white book but then gave up on the black!

I started by folding and accordian style spine and cutting out folded shapes.

There was a large printing press which was a bit like an overblown Cuttlebug or Big Shot.  So I experimented with putting damped paper through it with a stencil laid on it.  It's quite difficult to see the embossing but here it is:

The embossing shows up better on this because as you know I don't clean my stencils and the damp paper refreshed the spray ink that was left on the stencil.  So the paper became slightly pink.

Then I cut out some of the shapes using a scalpel.

I stitched the folded pages into the concertina spine.  There's lots of photos because I rather like the sculptural effect with the book and the shadows.

I doubt the book will ever have anything written in it but it was fun to make.

Thanks for stopping by.
