Passport to Art Day 1

Welcome to my month of Passport to Art blog posts.  Each day through July I will be featuring my response to the Passport to Art challenge blog.  The blog has 31 days of prompts, quotes and technique challenges at the end of which I should have an altered book.

I chose an old atlas for this project and prpeapred the book ready.  You can find out what I did here and here.

So let's set out.

This is inside the cover of my book and I have chosen to leave it until the end to do something with it.  It depends what I choose to do with the cover.

On the next page I put a piece of masking tape across the page.  I plan to do that somewhere on every page so that the atlas shows through.

I put gesso over the top of the page.I printed out all the quotes and verses.

I used scrapbooking cardstock and card.I decide to use Distress Inks over the gesso.  It allows more of the page to show through and I feel more in control of where the colour is going.  Then I splashed it with water.

I used tissue tape and bits of my scrapbooking stash to create my page.

And here it is in closeup.

Thanks for stopping by.   See you tomorrow.

  1. That a great start. I only ended up with 24 pages in my book, but I think that will be enough.

  3. I have lots of projects on the go right now but want to join you in this so I am signing up to do my best.
Love the idea of using an atlas. I have two put aside for my creative work... it feels a step far to use one as my journal but I am trying to challenge myself to use what I have and not to cling on to it for something special. This should be special if i am investing my time and effort. Looking forward to working along with you xx

  4. Fab spread Bernice, I love the masked idea, always so good to incorporate some original book elements when altering a book I think. Lol I would love to play but I can't find an atlas for love nor money at the mo, fingers crossed I can find one soon and play catch-up. Here's hoping.

  5. Great title page! I've just read through all the preview materials & know exactly where our old atlas is - that's what I'm going to use! Thanks for the inspiration!
